KS County Codes
ShopLicensePlates offers thousands of old Kansas license plates for sale.
Below is our key for Vintage Old Kansas County Numbers used on license plates. Our Coding Key will help you understand YOM or Year of Manufacture uses for our Real, Genuine Kansas Antique and Collectible Authentic License Plates for sale.
One of the factors for you to consider is for the year in question. Was a single license plate or a pair of license plates issued? The second factor that comes into play is whether or not Kansas was using a County Number or code at the time.
Kansas issued single license plates from 1923 to 1929. The State then issued pairs starting in 1930 to 1955. Exceptions to this were that Kansas issued singles in 1944, 1945, and 1949. Then, in 1956, Kansas went back to issuing a single license plate.
Any Kansas license plate issued in 1930 or later will have a County Number or code assigned. It will be either numeric or alpha. Because laws vary by State with respect to use of our real and authentic vintage license plates on an old vehicle, we always recommend that you contact your DMV or your local DMV office to confirm that you can use these prior to your purchase. As of this date, vehicles that are registered as "historic" display vintage or reproduction license plates provided the historic license plate and registration are carried in the vehicle at all times.
Beginning with 1930 plates and lasting through 1950 plates a numerical prefix number was assigned each county according to population with "1" going to the highest population.
