North Dakota

North Dakota is also nicknamed the Sioux State, Flickertail State, Peace Garden State, and the Rough Rider State.  North Dakota entered into Statehood on November 2, 1889.  The North Dakota State Capital is Bismarck, and the North Dakota State motto is liberty and union, now and forever:  one and inseparable.  The North Dakota State tree is the American elm (1947).  The North Dakota State bird is the western meadowlark (1947).  The North Dakota State song is the "North Dakota Hymn" (1947).  The North Dakota State fish is the northern pike (1969).  The North Dakota State grass is western wheatgrass (1977). The North Dakota State fossil is teredo petrified wood (1967).  The North Dakota State beverage is milk (1983).  The North Dakota State flower is the wild prairie rose (1907).  The North Dakota State equine is the Nokota horse (1993).
